Salesforce Summer ’22 Release Notes: 8 Features We’re Excited About

Salesforce has three big releases each year – Spring, Summer, and Winter. Each release is full of new features, fixes, and enhancements across many Salesforce products. The latest Salesforce release, Summer ‘22, will generally be available on June 12, 2022. Below, we’ve broken down some of the features we’re most excited about for Salesforce admins.

1. Dynamic Related List Editing in App Builder

Admins will now have the ability to edit Related Lists for an Object in App Builder for Lightning Record Pages. This will save admins from having to jump into Setup to manage Related Lists through Page Layouts. App builder will now include these features for editing Related Lists:

  • Adding and editing filters
  • Adding, removing, and reordering columns
  • Configuring dynamic actions
  • Sorting the order in which your related lists appear
  • Creating brand new Related Lists

2. Picklist Value Management

Another time-saving feature we’re excited to get our hands on is the new picklist value management. Admins will now be able to perform mass operations, activating, deactivating, or deleting picklist values instead of having to edit the values one by one. This also includes some clean-up options, like catching duplicate values with error messages that specifically call them out when you insert new picklist values. Runtime performance will also be improved with the new caching feature for inactive values.

3. Report Type Selector

This next feature is a win for both admins and end-users alike! Users will now be able to see the related objects and fields included with each Report Type at the point of report creation. This will save time and alleviate the frustration that comes with building and customizing a report only to realize that some of the fields you need aren’t included in that particular Report Type.

4. Person Account Setup Wizard

Salesforce has introduced a guided setup to self-enable Person Accounts. This means you no longer have to reach out to Salesforce support to get this feature turned on. Proceed with caution, though – once Person Accounts have been enabled, you can’t fully disable them.

5. Permission Set Assignment Expiration

Admins can now expire assignments of permission sets and permission set groups (a feature that was in beta previously). This means you can assign a permission set or permission set group to users for a defined amount of time, like when covering for a coworker who is out on leave or when helping with a specific project or initiative. A Permission Helper App for Permission Reporting is also in the final stages of production. This will be a Salesforce-supported app that helps Admins visualize the Permissions and Permission Sets a given User has.

6. Formula Conditions in Flow

Admins will now be able to start Record-Triggered Flows with a formula condition. In addition, you will now have the ability to check the syntax of a formula within the entry criteria of a flow.

7. Improved Flow Management

Salesforce has committed to making flows easier to use and manage. Descriptions have been added to explain the different types of variables within Flow Builder. Also, admins will now see triggered flows for a given Object within Object Manager, which should make it easier to manage flows from the central place where all object configuration is done. In addition, Flow Trigger Explorer now shows you your flows in the order they will execute for a given transaction.

8. Slack and Flow

Admins can now configure flows to send Slack messages and access other Slack actions. You can also embed your existing screen flows into a Slack channel. Users can complete a screen flow within Slack and have the information seamlessly map back to Salesforce.
